Sunday Feast

Here are some photos of last Sundays ‘Krishna fest’. There were approx. 50 guests. Mostly young (uni students, travellers, yoga guests etc.).  This is the usual Sunday evening here at the Gaura Yoga Centre. Although, it is of course, different everytime. Wellington has a very transient population, but many, like myself, when coming into contact with the GYC never leave. It is an oasis amidst the chaos.

Bh. Duncan (school teacher, sociologist background) lead an enlivening discussion. It was very good. His used Apples cinema-quality iworks (click link) for his presentation. Beats powerpoint anyday. It has animated storyboards, and interactive slideshows + more.

The kirtan afterwards is always very stimulating. We have techniques for peeling the wall-huggers off the wall and into the dancing. Where they actually let loose without any inhibitions. Such is the power of the Maha Mantra.

Although tha Gaura Yoga Centre is for everyone, we do use discrimination when allowing people in the door. If you are likely to cause a disturbance by the way you look, smell, or have previously been a nuisance, and that it is likely to inhibit other ‘normal’ people from coming back, then a tactful refusal at the door is a policy that we use. Of course, no one leaves, despite their make-up, without getting some prasadam. We have some Toffee Fudge for every guest that comes.

Most people who are refused entry, due to them being a likely disturbance to others, are very happy to get prasad, and go on their merry way. It is an easier atmosphere for all when the crazies are eliminated. And it is no loss or diminution because they get to taste food that has been offered to Krishna.
